Maker Spotlight: Mono Sourcil
Maxilie Martel, a.k.a Mono Sourcil, is a street artist found on the streets of Montréal. After finishing her studies at l’UQAM in 2012, Martel felt tired of the restrictive community of the art institution and began creating big murals throughout the city. Her work is intuitive and inspired by the community that surrounds her everyday life in a colorful, funny and grotesque way. Most of her characters are depicted in a crowd, bringing out the idea of an immersive pattern of people that are trapped in the same bizarre world. Martel is currently in her second year of her Masters studying sculpture at Concordia University and hopes to ultimately merge her sculptural and street art practices together.
